FREE DAYS in and around Los Angeles CA

I can't even begin to tell you how many new posts I have to catch up on but because summer is around the corner I wanted to share with you a handful of fun places we take our kids as often as we can. We are a family on a budget so we try to plan our trips around FREE days! 

(The ones with pictures are the ones we have been to - usually many many times a year)

Here they are in no particular order:

Griffith Observatory  Free Tuesday-Sunday      Admission and Parking Are Free

Kidspace Children's Museum  

Kidspace Childrens Museum Admission to Kidspace is free during Free Family Nights. Free Family Night is the FIRST Tuesday of every month from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. There is no Family Free Night in September. 

Bowers Museum  
Bowers Museum, Kidseum, and all activities on the first Sunday of every month

William S. Hart Ranch and Museum
Both the ranch house and the Hart residence are open to the public for free. An assortment of animals reside at Hart Park, including a small herd of bison which were a gift from the Walt Disney Studios in 1962. There is also a barnyard area with live animals!

Natural History Museum 

In July and August, they will not offer Free Tuesdays so that they can avoid overcrowding and maintain a quality visitor experience. In their place, they have expanded the program in the month of September, and now offer 13 Free Tuesdays a year.

 Los Angeles Fire Department Historical Society
We invite you to visit us on any Saturday, from 10:00AM until 4:00PM FREE

Hollywood Museum  
Sat. 10-4
Harbor Musuem
Sat. 10-3

The African American Firefighter Museum  
admission is free for groups or individuals that have less then 10 people in their party
Tuesday & Thursday 10am-2pm
Sunday's 1-4pm

La Brea Tar Pits  

La Brea Tar Pits Free general admission on the first Tuesday of every month except July and August.

Fowler Museums at UCLA  

EVERY SUNDAY Kids in the courtyard....FREE different theme each Sunday Fowler Museum at UCLA

California Science Center  

FREE The California Science Center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. parking $10

Skirball Cultural Center 
(We have been here but I can't find our pictures)
All exhibitions are FREE to the public on Thursdays.

The Getty  
The Getty is for an older crowd but has a small family/kids room and great outdoor space and gardens! 


NexGen LACMA Arts is the nation's only free youth membership program! NexGen offers free general admission to anyone 17 and under as well as one accompanying adult. This includes permanent collection galleries and selected special exhibitions. To join, visit the LACMA box office or print the enrollment form and mail it in. - Los Angeles County Museum of Art - Museum Store 

Travel Town 

FREE Hours of Operation Mon - Fri: 10 am - 4 pm Sat - Sun: 10 am - 6 pm

California African American Museum   
Museum Galleries: 
Tuesday - Saturday 10:00am-5:00pm; 
Sunday 11:00am-5:00pm
Admission is FREE  
Parking is $10 - please enter at 39th and Figueroa Streets 

Hammer Museum
Recommended for ages 8-13
Reservations are encouraged. Please visit or call 310-305-8418. 
Parking is available under the museum for $3 for 3 hours.  

Zimmer Children's Museum  

Grandparents: FREE on Thursdays when accompanied by a grandchild  

EBT cardholders are admitted free to the museum when card is presented.

 The Zimmer Children's Museum is a proud participant of Blue Star Museums, a program that offers free admission to museums for all active duty, National Guard and Reserve military personnel and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
All Sunday drop-in programs run from 3:00pm-4:00pm and are FREE with paid admission.

Pretend City  

 Check for free events and 2-for-1 way to play days

Saturday, June 8th 2013 9am – 2pm Bring your family to Pretend City’s 4th Annual, Good To Go From Head To Toe® Family Fun & Wellness Fair! This event is completely free to attend, and each child that completes at least 3 health screenings will receive a free ticket to Pretend City!

Monday, June 24 2013 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Specifically For:

Families with children of all ages who are on the autism spectrum; Pretend City will be closed to the general public

Discovery Science Center (aka The Cube) 

Teacher Education Network get free general admission everyday!  Please note that valid credentials (ID/badge or pay stub and valid ID) are required to verify current teacher status. Identification must have current year listed.

Santa Ana residents receive up to 4 free admissions per address with valid ID (proof of residency) on the first Tuesday of every month. 

Bank of America cardholders receive free admission on the first Sunday of each month. Photo ID and any valid Bank of America/Merrill Lynch credit or debit card must be presented.

Underwood Family Farms 
 Underwood has two locations the Somis location is free to enter and you can walk around, feed the animals and pick your own blueberries (pay per pound) 

The Moorpark location charges a fee of $3 week days and $6 weekends but has more to do. 
We LOVE both locations! 

   Don't forget......feeding the ducks, parks, pools, and the beach are ALL FREE


Select bowling centers and schools around the country are participating in the first ever Kids Bowl Free program. This program is designed by bowling centers to give back to the community and provide a safe, secure, and fun way for kids to spend time this summer. Children whose age does not exceed a limit by a participating bowling center are eligible to register for 2 free games a day, all summer long, courtesy of the participating bowling centers along with the schools and organizations.
